CognitioFlow installs as an edge runtime at the controls layer — between the PLC floor and your SCADA and MES. It reads the live tag namespace, reasons, and writes decisions back through the same interlock-checked channel an operator would use. No rip-and-replace, no cloud round-trip in the control path.
The floor talks to the PLC. The PLC talks to CognitioFlow. CognitioFlow reasons with the SCADA and MES in view — and acts through the PLC, never around it.
Each protocol plays a different role on the floor. CognitioFlow treats them as what they are — transport and information models — and adds a reasoning layer on top that never reaches around the safety system.
The backbone for reading the live tag namespace and writing setpoints back. CognitioFlow subscribes to the UA information model rather than point-to-point tags, so the reasoning layer sees typed, addressable process state — not a flat register map.
Cell-level control for drives, I/O blocks, and robots. CognitioFlow exchanges cyclic and explicit-message data with the devices that actually move material, keeping the decision path on the same network the machine already runs.
Where the cycle budget is strict, PROFINET carries the deterministic I/O. CognitioFlow reads the process image and issues commands at the same cadence the line expects — reasoning happens above the cycle, actuation stays inside it.
The long tail of brownfield instruments, gateways, and meters speaks Modbus. CognitioFlow bridges it into the same reasoning loop, so an aging flow meter or legacy panel isn't a reason to leave a process un-observed.
Every write path runs through the same interlock chain as a manual setpoint change. If a decision would require reaching through a safety interlock, CognitioFlow doesn't make it — it escalates to the operator instead. Cognitive automation widens the recovery envelope; it does not widen the safety envelope.
